It has long been recognized that English is one language with two major national dialects: British and American. Of the two, British English has enjoyed a reputation as being the more correct and prestigious dialect. This reputation is based on two claims: Britain is the geographic area where English developed, and British English is “purer” than American English. About the first claim there can be little argument; however, all evidence points to the contrary of the second claim: in grammar, pronunciation, and, to a lesser extent, vocabulary, American English is closer than British English to the language spoken in England prior to the 18th century.
Linguists have noted the tendency of people to be linguistically conservative when isolated from their mother tongue. This phenomenon can be observed in the Icelanders’ retention of characteristics lost in other Scandinavian languages. The same is true of American English, as can be seen in the retention of the past participle “gotten,” abandoned in modern British English. Finally, if we accept the notion that the purest form of a language is that spoken by the upper classes, it is reasonable to assume that Americans had excellent speech models, for the greatest percentage of British immigrants to America were well-spoken members of the educated classes.
Even today American English resembles present standard British English more closely than it resembles any other of the local British dialects; the major difference, perhaps, lies only in the degree of purity.

Индивидуальные занятия предполагают подготовку по согласованному расписанию. Мы советуем придерживаться фиксированного расписания – это дисциплинирует студента и обеспечивает непрерывность процесса обучения. Вместе с тем, при необходимости занятие можно отменить или перенести. О переносе или отмене занятия просим заранее сообщать преподавателю.
